Abstract: The authors characterise the key types of alternative energy developed in Russian regions to ensure their sustainable socio-economic development. In this article, the authors analyse the experience of foreign countries in the development of alternative energy and its state support. The authors note that alternative energy has a positive trend in Russia, the undoubted advantage of which is the environmentally friendly focus of this strategic development and serves as a promising training ground for introducing the best available technologies (BAT). The authors characterise the key types of alternative energy that could be developed in the Russian regions to ensure their sustainable socioeconomic development and justified the investment attractiveness of alternative energy. The authors prove the necessity of state support for the development of renewable energy sources using the best available technologies (BAT) at the stages of the formation of alternative energy.
