Abstract: A comprehensive study is undertaken to compare the characteristics of grey water (GW) samples collected from the kitchen line of a commercial and residential building located in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The various characteristics of the samples analysed in this paper are pH, conductivity, total solids (TS), total dissolved solids (TDS), total suspended solids (TSS), total hardness, temporary hardness, permanent hardness, chloride and biological oxygen demand (BOD). This study is useful to determine the type of treatment process for kitchen line GW because it depends largely on its characteristics in terms of the pollutant strength.

Keywords: grey water; pollutant strength; commercial and residential buildings.
