Abstract: Climate change is a certainty staring us in the face, and time to limit the damages caused is running out. The race for development by rapid industrialisation is making us pay a steep price and by-products of industrialisation are leading to climate change on a global level. To envision the potential effects of large number of different climate scenarios, correspondingly large amount of data needs to be studied. Recent studies have highlighted the need for a reliable decision making framework (DMF) to address climate change. However, it is easier said than done due to the large social, economic and geographic diversity among the involved parties coupled with long time horizons and irreversible effects. In big data-based DMF the focus is on big data, computational capability, and model simulation and data visualisation that need to be addressed for big data to fulfil the promise with regard to climate change applications.
