Abstract: Vehicular ad hoc network (VANET) is a promising technology for providing the safety and efficiency in transportation. The distinctive features of VANET, including high mobility, variable density and open wireless medium, may lead to many security vulnerabilities. Due to the need for almost negligible reaction time, it is not feasible to verify a critical message or authenticate the sender before taking action. There is a need for a priori trust on nodes so that a vehicle can act in response to a message without verifying it. In this paper, trust computation scheme for variable density in VANET along with time efficiency for decision making is presented. In this work, fuzzy-based analyser is being used to evaluate trust level of messages in high, medium and low density environment whenever indirect trust value is available. The proposed scheme is also able to measure trust level of vehicle whenever indirect trust value is unavailable using Dempster-Shafer theory and Perron-Frobenius theorem. Results and simulation show that viability of the proposed scheme.
