Abstract: Enhancing the competitiveness of characteristic industries plays an important role in promoting the development of regional economy. Taking the carrot industry in Jinjiang City as an example, this paper analyses the market competitiveness status of county industries and products from the three factors of 'base-enterprise-market', and realises the potential of agricultural industry transformation and upgrading by applying GEM competitiveness model and the related theories. The analysis results show that the development of the six factors of the competitiveness of carrot characteristic industries in Jinjiang City is uneven, and it has advantages in resources, facilities, and external markets, but it is relatively insufficient in three aspects: manufacturer structure/strategy, suppliers/related enterprises, and local market. The overall level of competitiveness is normal. From the analysis of industrial development potential, due to the improvement of the diet structure will promote the expansion of the industrial market, the carrot industry in Jinjiang City has a large space for development, especially the demand for carrot processing products.
