Abstract: The diffusion of financial technologies (FinTech) in our daily lives is inevitable. Noting that FinTech is an important yet emerging field of study, we intend to provide a better understanding of the development of the FinTech area for the past ten years by identifying the development of literature, studies, and gaps in this area. We presented an influential and intellectual analysis of 254 academic papers about FinTech and Islamic FinTech retrieved from the SCOPUS database using both bibliometric and content analysis between the period of 2013 and September 2022. Our influential analysis narrows down the countries, journals, articles, institutions, and the most common keywords of these articles. We identified six research streams in our cluster analysis, notably: 1) Islamic FinTech development and performance; 2) Bitcoin-cryptocurrency; 3) blockchain and crowdfunding; 4) FinTech; 5) initial coins offering (ICO) and stablecoins; 6) financial inclusion. Using these mainstreams, we proposed the direction of future research.
Keywords: financial technology; FinTech; bibliometric analysis; Islamic FinTech; COVID-19; financial technology.
