Abstract: This study investigates the role of networking in shaping the performance of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Uttar Pradesh, with specific reference to the Kanpur leather cluster and the Varanasi handloom cluster. The demand and supply network (DESNET) model is employed to categorize network determinants into three dimensions: operational structure, organisational arrangement, and the socio-economic environment. comparative analysis indicates that the Kanpur leather cluster demonstrates relatively stronger and progressively evolving network linkages, whereas the Varanasi handloom cluster exhibits weakening and fragmented networking patterns. The findings underscore that effective network structures significantly contribute to enhancing competitiveness, innovation, and resilience within MSMEs. The study further proposes strategic interventions aimed at strengthening multi-level network channels, thereby providing policy guidance for fostering sustainable performance and regional industrial development.
