Abstract: In this study, the flame retardant effect of aerogel thermal insulation material in lithium ion power battery and its influence on battery performance were evaluated. In the study, we selected appropriate raw materials and instruments for preparation, and successfully prepared the required aerogel materials according to the preparation process of SiO2 aerogel thermal insulation materials. Subsequently, we left the transformed lithium-ion battery at 45°C for 72 hours and conducted flame retardant performance tests after capacity division. The test results show that the first discharge capacity of the battery reaches 4,350.5 mAh, and the capacity retention rate reaches 91.19% after 300 cycles, which indicates that the aerogel insulation material has no negative impact on the cycle performance of the battery. In the low-temperature self discharge test, the aerogel material significantly improved the low-temperature performance of the battery. In addition, the safety performance test showed that the air gel thermal insulation material could significantly reduce the battery temperature to 55.2°C and 46.9°C respectively in the case of battery short circuit and overcharge, thus greatly enhancing the safety of the battery.
