Abstract: 'Ageing in place' has emerged as the predominant form of ageing in Jinan. The colour configuration of residential spaces is often considered the most crucial determinant affecting the psychological well-being of older people. This paper takes the city of Jinan in China as an example. Data about the preference for colour configuration of the older people were collected by image simulation method and questionnaire survey. Statistical methods were used to analyse the data. Findings reveal the following. The brightness of both the side interface and primary colour was significantly positively correlated with the preference of older people. The warm hue dominated the hue preference of the primary colour, and the background colour was under the influence of the primary colour. These study findings supplement the theoretical discourse surrounding the colour configuration of age-friendly spaces and establish a practical benchmark for the design of colour configurations in ageing-friendly spaces.
