67 - 78The Third-party Logistics (3PL) service industry sector has been growing very rapidly. To meet the ever rising shippers| expectations, shipping firms seek to expand the scope of their logistics services through vertical integration to increase their ability to satisfy the evolving service needs of their customers. In doing so, many shipping firms are seeking to broaden their shipping operations and develop a new name for the logistics arms close to their core container shipping services. Examples include Maersk Logistics, OOCL Logistics, NOL Logistics, NYK Logistics, and APL Logistics. In this vstudy we attempt to explain the growing importance of the 3PL industry sector and provide a management framework for effective management of 3PL businesses. A case study conducted with a 3PL in Hong Kong is presented to share the experience of a successful 3PL in offering integrated logistics services including international freight forwarding, cargo transportation, warehousing management, value-added supply chain solution, freight management, and logistics consultancy services.
