Cloud computing has become an attractive computing paradigm which presents a pool of computing resources that can be availed by users on demand at a low cost, thus making users free from the overheads of setting up an expensive infrastructure to launch their applications.

In networking terminology, the cloud symbol is used to denote any network. Thus the term “cloud computing” means “computing based on internet”, which implies that the variety of services offered by cloud computing – namely SaaS, PaaS, IaaS, etc. – are accessible only via the internet. Cloud computing is similar to grid computing, in which computing resources are gathered from distributed locations to achieve a specific objective. Small to medium-size enterprises largely benefit from the features of cloud computing as it is economical.

The aim of this special issue is to publish new research results pertaining to design, architectures, techniques and applications with particular emphasis on the integration of cloud infrastructures.
