Special Issue on: "Sustainable Business Development in India"

The sustainable business development (SBD) is often defined as managing triple bottom line (TBL), a process by which a firm manages its financial, social and environmental risks, obligations and opportunities. According to World Council for Economic Development (WCED), sustainable development is development that “meets the need of present without compromising with the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”.

So that business development to be sustainable, it must address the core issues at the macro level, such as economic efficiency (profit, market share, innovation, and productivity), social equity (poverty, community, health and wellness, human rights) and environmental accountability (climate change, land use, bio-diversity). In recent years, there is burgeoning interest among academicians and practitioners towards sustainable practices which include sustainable procurement, sustainable manufacturing, sustainable transportation and sustainable distribution.

However, even though literature focuses on sustainability, the social dimensions are either missing or deeper insights are missing. There is dearth of literature which focuses on all three dimensions of sustainability.

All papers submitted to this special issue should address the sustainability issues of Indian business, which includes the manufacturing sector, the logistics and transportation sector, the healthcare sector and the banking and financial sector. They must demonstrate rigor in terms of research objectives, review of literature and methodology. Their findings must reflect unique contributions which practitioners may be able to implement.

The issue will carry revised and substantially extended versions of selected papers presented at the SIOM Doctoral Colloquium, but we also strongly encourage researches unable to participate in the colloquium to submit articles for this call.
