Pattern recognition has broad applications for the design of intelligent systems which can help companies improve service quality, investment performance and productivity. Intelligent solutions to the design of distributed intelligent systems, which can solve complicated problems in different areas, are becoming more and more imperative with the development of artificial intelligence. Currently, research on several issues of designing such intelligent systems is being conducted in the industry and academic community.

Recently, large scale pattern recognition and design of distributed intelligent systems has attracted much attention in the computing community because the problems are not only academically challenging because of their complexity, but also of practical importance due to their wide applications in nature and engineering.

The aim of this special issue is to provide a forum for the publication and information exchange among researchers, practitioners, scientists and engineers in related disciplines on an international basis, on research of large scale pattern recognition and design of distributed intelligent systems. The scope is focused on but not limited to the following aspects: large scale pattern recognition approaches with applications in event detection, intelligent resources allocations, application studies for the design models and directions for the future research in these two areas.

Subject Coverage
Original research papers written in the journal style are invited in the following areas which address research in large scale pattern recognition and design of intelligent systems:
  • Distributed intelligent systems in various sectors (health, finance, manufacturing, etc)
  • Fuzzy expert systems
  • Hybrid neural networks
  • Statistical approach
  • GA-based reasoning
  • Inferencing /reasoning with noisy inputs
  • Semantic event detection
  • Intelligent multi-agent systems
