Abstract: Regenerative braking is an effective approach for electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) to extend their driving range. With the development of EVs/HEVs, regenerative braking has been paid much attention in recent years. This paper presents a comprehensive review of regenerative braking technology for EVs/HEVs in China. The properties that have influence on regenerative braking are summarised. Energy recovery, integration with anti-lock braking system and vehicle stability are studied as research issues, and the key technologies of regenerative braking are discussed in detail. Various government funding and related regulations are also analysed. Finally, the author proposes possible research trends of regenerative braking in the future.
