Abstract: In order to improve independent learning ability of engineering college students, the application of the metacognitive strategy is studied in depth. First, the current situation of independent learning of engineering college students is analysed based on the questionnaire investigation. Second, the basic theory of the metacognitive strategy is studied. Third, the independent study procession of the engineering college students based on the metacognitive strategy is discussed. Finally, the method and channel of improving the independent study ability of the engineering college students are summarised. Based on practice and investigation, this advanced teaching mode can improve the learning effect of engineering college students effectively.
