Abstract: The motorised spindle is one of the most important parts of modern machine tools. Its deformation and vibration directly influence machining precision, surface quality and productivity. In this paper, the significance of spindle optimisation is analysed and optimisation method based on finite element is introduced. The spindle model of HTC3250µn NC machine tool is established using software ANSYS. The design variables, state variables and objective functions are given. The main optimised variables are obtained by variables scanning. The single objective and multi-objective optimisations are done and the main size comparison of spindle before and after optimisation is given. In the end, the optimised spindle model is established and corresponding performance analysis is done. The result of evaluation indicates that spindle parameters obtained by optimisation design are satisfactory.
