Abstract: This paper deals with the study of automotive seat vibration when a non-linear vibration absorber (NVA) is attached to it at different positions. A quarter car model is considered with the passenger modelled as a lumped mass as well as an ISO model. Two main configurations of the NVA are considered and the more efficient position of the absorber is selected using methods including jerk analysis and rattle space distance. The passenger comfort is evaluated by calculating the jerk factor and the relation is plotted against the damping coefficient and road deflection to help choose the optimal absorber. The solutions of the differential equations are obtained using Simulink. The surface plots introduced a reduction of 30% in the jerk experienced at the seat using suitable absorbers with the calculated parameters.
