Abstract: Technology advances in software have been considerable in recent years. An example of one significant advance is the integration of a structured programming language with the capabilities of traditional spreadsheet software. This paper illustrates how a basic amortisation schedule template can be made more functional by complementing the spreadsheet template with a structured programming language. Construction of an amortisation schedule in a spreadsheet that will change the number of payments is an important issue for many spreadsheet users. The enhanced template will present a field of view that is unencumbered by extraneous cell formulas which may confuse users of a traditionally constructed template. The paper provides an algorithm for use by professionals interested in enhancing their capabilities relating to structured finance issues.

Keywords: amortisation schedule; time value.
