Abstract: In order to reduce total manufacturing time for dies and moulds, machining process should be optimised. In this method, the parts, characterised by complex geometry, are produced by significant application of high speed milling utilisation of ball end milling tools. Optimisation of high speed ball end milling processes not only requires the optimisation of cutting variables, but also the discovery of the optimal machining sequence and necessary tools. This is very important for the total machining time. It is necessary to develop an appropriate strategy for the planning of optimal process. This paper presents a methodology of finding the optimal machining sequence in the high speed ball end milling of sculptured surfaces. Firstly, the dependencies between the machining stages in high speed milling process are shown, and subsequently an approach to the generation of the optimal process chain in consideration of this relationship is explained.
