Abstract: Due to its extraordinary and outstanding chemical stability, high and low temperature resistance and self-lubricating performance, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is widely used in friction materials. However, the lack of wear-resisting property still limits its feasibility severely. In order to improving the friction properties of PTFE, different composite materials based on PTFE were made and tested in normal temperature and pressure (NTP) and low-temperature vacuum (LTV) with different levels of load and rotating speed. On the condition of NTP, the friction of binary PTFE-based composite with different contents of MoS2 and PTFE-based composite with different contents of graphite were tested respectively, the optimal content of the MoS2 and graphite was studied. Based on this result, ternary complex PTFE-based composite was prepared with MoS2 and graphite. The ternary complex composites were tested under both NTP and LTV, the adaptability of PTFE-based composite for severe rugged environment is worked out and the wear mechanism is analysed.
