Abstract: Hard and brittle materials such as SiC are very difficult to machine because of the hard and brittle nature. It is difficult to conduct a high precision machining of surface throttle hydrostatic bearing with inner groove and micro holes using different machine tools. A multi-function machining process and the relevant equipment development has become an important issue in manufacturing field. The development of a multi-axis machine tool with grinding and EDM was proposed and developed in this study that can be employed to machine the hard and brittle materials with complex forms. The integrated machining processing database is developed and experiments of SiC air bearing is also conducted using the newly developed machine tool.
