Creation of the Porsche 928

Abstract: With the introduction of the Porsche 928, the company is strengthening its position as a world leader in sports cars. Since the 928 will be in a higher price bracket than the 911 models, Porsche is extending its market. Like any other Porsche, it meets all the demands of everyday driving as to function-ability, and presents excellent value. The 4.5 litre, eight cylinder V engine, of light alloy construction, develops 240 bhp. It is mounted in front and drives a rear-mounted transmission unit via a transmission tube. This system, which is also applied to the 924 model, produces an equal distribution of weight in the front and rear and improves the rear wheel traction. The engine, which is extremely quiet, provides superior performance because of its high torque. It accelerates the 928 from 0-100 km/h (0-62.5 mph) in less than seven seconds and gives a top speed in excess of 230 km/h (143 mph).
