Abstract: Utilising a giant magnetostrictive material (GMM) rod as the sensitive element, a new type of magnetostrictive force sensor is studied. A Hall sensor with a stainless steel ring integrated in the sensor is used to measure the bias magnetic field intensity. In view of the hysteresis of GMM, a model for the sensor is established based on Jiles-Atherton model and magnetomechanical effect method. Moreover, the numerical solution method and simulation process of the model are expounded in detail. The simulation results show that the model can reveal the process mechanism of magnetisation and have a good ability in describing the hysteretic non-linearity. The experimental results indicate that the model can effectively describe the relationship between the induced voltage and force under a constant magnetic field and dynamic force simultaneously.
