Building collaborative learning tools on the internet

Abstract: The internet is recognised as a very useful tool in several areas of our society. Education is the area where greater expectations have been generated. Nevertheless, due to the high cost of the development of completely new applications, there is a lack of effective tools to support learning processes. This article presents a study to bring well-recognised learning strategies to the world of the internet. We analyse collaborative learning strategies in order to implement them as applications on the internet. In this article, we present not only an example of such an application, Mapco Collaborative Concept Maps on the internet, but also its careful design leading to a methodology and eventually to a framework aimed at developing this kind of application.
