Design of battery management system based on improved ampere-hour integration method

Abstract: With the emergence of the energy crisis and environmental pollution problems, electric vehicles are paid more attention. As an important core component of electric vehicles, the battery management system (BMS) has also become a hot issue in current research. The BMS focuses on the state of charge (SOC) estimation and equalisation methods. A complete BMS in this paper includes the design of its software and hardware. The BMS uses the AT89C52 as the master chip and the DS2438 as the sampling chip and uses the improved ampere-hour (Ah) integration method based on the open-circuit voltage (OCV) method to estimate the SOC. Also, the relays were used to control switched capacitors for equalisation. Finally, we found that the sampling precision of the voltage, current and temperature are 0.4%, 0.5% and 0.5% respectively and that the equalisation time of the BMS is less than 250 s.
