  Abstract/
Summary
The superfast Lainiotis filter is presented. This multi-model filter is an exact realization of the optimal use estimator for linear gaussian models. The Lainiotis filter has its most superfast nature in its distributed processing realization. This property constitutes a significant advantage over competitive filters, e.g. the Kalman filter. For example, its competitive advantage over the Kalman filter exceeds 10 orders of magnitude for time varying, as well as, for time-invariant problems. Moreover, in addition to its optimality and superfast nature, the Lainiotis filter possesses many additional significant advantages one of which is its natural parallel processing/distributed processing structure, and its ease of implementation in software or hardware. The Lainiotis filter has been applied to numerous important applications in signal processing, communications, optimal control, etc.
