Abstract: Performance evaluations and employee performance management have always posed problems for organisations. Lack of acceptance by those using them, concern for their validity, concern for the quality of their implementation, and disagreements over which approach is best have plagued the use of performance evaluations and performance management systems for a very long time. Today, with the added complexity of conducting business on a global basis, new factors, such as national cultures and traditions, influence the acceptance and use of various approaches to performance measurement and feedback. This introduction outlines three short notes addressing these issues.
