by Prof. Hubert Grafen
International Journal of Continuing Engineering Education and Life-Long Learning (IJCEELL), Vol. 1, No. 2, 1991

Abstract: Accelerating technological development means that professional qualifications quickly become devalued and have to be updated several times during an individual's life. The Chairperson of the German Association of Engineers' (VDI) Committee on Education and Training of Engineers examines the basis for continuing education courses in engineering, and how industrial companies of various sizes are able to arrange effective continuing education, training and updating in collaboration with other companies and institutions. A prescription is given for improving professional further training.
