International Journal of Environment and Pollution (IJEP), Vol. 6, No. 4/5/6, 1996

Abstract: In the Philippines, formal quantitative risk assessment is relatively undeveloped. There has been no consistent and objective approach to assessing risks, and emergency planning by industries is not based on objective assessment of their risks. It was in this context that a study was undertaken under the aegis of the IAEA/UNEP/WHO/UNIDO Inter-Agency project. From the data collected in the survey of installations and activities using/producing and transporting hazardous materials industries within Pasig City were subjected to rapid risk assessment for ranking and prioritisation purposes. Of the approximately 200 industries in the subject area, about 6% posed significant risk to human health and the environment.
