Abstract: A study on the rates of infant and perinatal mortality based on the offspring cohort of the Ozyorsk residents including all children born in Ozyorsk (or the ones who moved in as children), who spent at least one year in Ozyorsk, has been conducted. Cohorts of children of different years of birth were studied, taking into account the parents| occupational exposure to sources of ionising radiation. The rates of infant mortality and still-birth in the cohorts of children born between 1949 and 1959, whose parents were occupationally exposed to doses dramatically exceeding presently permissible ones at Mayak PA in the first years of its operation were significantly higher than in controls. Parental exposure prior to conception, which was mostly in doses not exceeding maximum permissible level, had no effect on the studied rates in the cohorts of children born between 1960 and 1988. The rate of infant and perinatal mortality in Ozyorsk during the whole period of follow-up was lower than in Chelyabinsk or Russia. The dynamics of infant mortality rates in Ozyorsk matched the ones in Russia and the countries of Western Europe.
