Abstract: This research analyses the implementation of a GPS based fleet management system at Rai Plywoods (Kenya) Ltd in order to find out whether the business objective of fuel cost reduction was met after the introduction of the new technology. The main objective was subdivided into three sub objectives which were studied independently using different methodologies. The three specific objectives studied were the impact of the fleet management system in; the prevention of fuel theft, the reduction of fuel costs and the operational efficiency. Data was collected from the company and analysed. A study of trip charts from the system was made to address the first sub-objective. An analysis was done to determine whether there was a statistically significant difference in fuel costs before and after system implementation. Lastly, a financial ratio analysis was used to study changes in operational efficiency. The system's effectiveness in achieving the main business objective was ascertained.
