Abstract: The objective of this project was to develop a prototype web-based decision support system for the integrated supply chain, and demonstrate how the performance of the supply chain could be improved by this system. Data from two industrial case studies were examined, and their limitations were identified. An extensive management science/operations research model and a subsequent web-based decision support system were proposed to overcome the determined limitations and better adapt to the real world. A traditional system design methodology was employed to develop the system. Verification and validation were conducted on the system by utilising accepted methods. The system eases data entry for users and helps to avoid a partial perspective view of the supply chain. It can also overcome an overabundance of transactional data for the purpose of managerial decision making, and the difficulties to integrate the activities of multiple organisations.
