Abstract: The process of electricity power systems interconnection is already underway. Long-distance ties between the existing bulk systems in Europe, Asia, America and Africa, including formation of a global electricity network, are being considered at present and they promise certain advantages. Decisions on the construction of such long and expensive intersystem transmissions require a rather deep analysis of the effects produced, including savings in generating capacity and the use of renewable energy resources. An approach to a more complete assessment of these effects is discussed in the paper.
Keywords: consumer load; economic assessment; electricity generation; power systems; fuel saving; installed generating capacities; reserve generating capacities; intersystem connections; power transmission; renewable energy.
