Title: Alternative power in the former USSR and scope for international cooperation

Abstract: The current role of renewable power sources (RPS) in the former USSR is reviewed and the prospects for their future development are discussed. Each renewable technology, solar power, wind energy, geothermal, biomass and tidal power, is considered in turn. The paper concludes with an examination of the current scope and future potential for international cooperation in the field of alternative energy.
