Abstract: Growth in population, industrialisation, and improvements in living conditions have widened the gap between energy supply and demand in Pakistan. Efforts are being made to develop new energy supplies. It is argued that the potential energy savings in the industrial sector are an alternative to new energy supplies. To support this argument, we present results of a detailed energy survey of private sector industries. This paper presents the pattern of energy consumption and potential for energy conservation in the industrial sector. Moreover, this work provides a rationale for the immediate formulation and implementation of an industrial energy conservation policy in Pakistan.
