Title: For a community energy policy that reconciles economic, environmental and social aspects: The proposals of T.E.N. - 'The European Nuclear Worker'

Abstract: The European Union has set the following energy objectives: reinforcing the competitiveness of the European Union; making sure that Europe is energy-independent; protecting the environment and ecological systems. To these objectives the trade union organisations participating in the T.E.N. would like to add: the fight against unemployment. A general consensus would dictate that these objectives cannot be attained simultaneously. Some objectives would be given priority at the expense of others, thereby leading to a rather uncertain trade-off. The future energy policy of the European Union seems to renounce trying to meet this quadruple challenge. This article explores the issues involved in EU energy policy.
