Abstract: ec3: the Electronic Commerce Competence Center is a private-public-partnership corporation for the promotion and advancement of electronic business technologies in Austria, joining several university departments with business enterprises. The centre was founded in 2000 with an initial period of 4 years of operation, including an option to extend to 7 years in case of success. ec3 seeks to transfer and transform academic knowledge in business-relevant information technologies into enterprise reality by taking up issues of high importance to either the Austrian economic region or to the industrial partners of the centre through engaging in cooperative academic– industrial RTD at pre-competitive stages of value generation. Although focused on Austria|s economy first and foremost, ec3 entertains and expands international networking activities. More recently, the centre moved thematically towards mobile business while, as to the innovation instruments used, new approaches to innovation management and socio-economic ICT implementation are going to be explored.
