Abstract: The collaboration between universities and industries is regarded as a key factor for promoting regional technological advance and industrial competitiveness, so several research efforts have been committed to its modeling and analysis. Here, a methodology to analyse these collaborations is presented. The methodology is based on a profound understanding of the values of the potential partners, and incorporates tools from decision analysis, value-focused thinking and negotiation analysis. It is composed of three phases: objective identification and structuring, qualitative appraisal, and quantitative evaluation. The emphasis placed on values throughout the methodology, forces the analysis to include all relevant objectives, whether they are measurable or not. For the quantitative evaluation phase, this means the construction of a value model for the university that includes several objectives that are, otherwise, left out of the analysis. This 'complete' value model is necessary to correctly assess the collaboration worth to the sides.
