Abstract: The Andreoni and Levinson (2001) theoretical framework can be used to show that the shape of the environmental Kuznets curve can be explained without considering increasing returns to scale in pollution abatement technology, but simply by making explicit that the marginal disutility of pollution increases with income.
Keywords: environmental Kuznets curve; marginal disutility of pollution; pollution abatement technology; pollution–income patterns; environmental pollution.
