Abstract: The increasing complexity of concept-based web information systems (WIS) and their educational applications requires more intelligent support for their authoring. We propose an ontological approach towards a common authoring framework for such systems to formally describe the overall authoring process (in terms of primitive and composite tasks). A key idea is to completely separate the content and the application-related issues, which will allow for better modelling in both ||closed|| and ||open|| WIS. As a basis for reasoning processes, we use a task-based ontological description of the authoring process. We illustrate our approach within AIMS, an educational information system.
