Abstract: An attempt has been made to analyse the behaviour of a magnetic fluid-based squeeze film between two curved rough rotating circular plates when the curved upper plate lying along a surface determined by hyperbolic function approaches the curved lower plate along the surface governed by a secant function. The concerned Reynolds equation is solved with appropriate boundary conditions in dimensionless form to get the pressure distribution. The results show that the bearing system records a considerably enhanced performance as compared to that of the bearing system working with a conventional lubricant. This investigation suggests that although the bearing suffers owing to transverse roughness in general, there are some scopes for getting a relatively better performance in the case of negatively skewed roughness by properly choosing curvature parameters and the rotation ratio. Interestingly enough this positive effect further enhances especially when negative variance is involved.
