Abstract: Static and dynamic stiffness are essential in machine tool design. Especially for electro-mechanic driven controlled drives, methods for calculating these properties will be discussed. It will be shown how finite element models (FEM-models) can be used for correct calculation of the static stiffness of controlled feed axes without using a mechatronic model. Furthermore it will be shown, how to use a new compact form of mechatronic simulation model for improved determination of static and dynamic stiffness.
