Abstract: The complexity of the supply chain for fresh products and fruits is increased by the perishable nature of the product as well as by legislative constraints. RFID technology may address some of these issues through real-time monitoring and traceability. In this paper, we present the design and implementation of an innovative RFID-based information system for the logistics management of dried figs. A systematic method is proposed to optimise system performance. Our tests in a Cooperative, indicate that the RFID-based system may improve warehousing activities, increase customer service through online product traceability and reduce operational costs.
