Abstract: Knowledge transfer is a key factor in the ongoing development of organisations| knowledge bases. In this paper, we compare two branches of literature on knowledge transfer; the process view and the engineering view. We identify shortcomings in the literature, and thereafter, we suggest that studying logic strains will enable us to establish the foundation for a better understanding of knowledge transfer in cross-functional teams contexts, where culturally diverse sets of individuals act around a locus towards a well accepted goal. Finally, we explain how these insights can be used as the foundation for the development of a knowledge transfer mechanism.

Keywords: cross-functional teams; engineering view; knowledge transfer; logic strains; process view; systems; cultural diversity.
