Abstract: The phenomenon of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at the international level has evolved in a relatively short period of time, drawing from a wide spectrum of perspectives and interests. Overall, the nature of business is being challenged, thus encouraging the development of new value-creation objectives for firms in a push-pull relation between corporate and societal objectives. Besides briefly outlining the papers in the special issue, this introduction briefly profiles two of the frameworks that reflect the business community and civil society approaches to CSR respectively.

Keywords: corporate social responsibility; CSR; risk management; human rights.
