Abstract: The Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) will be highly pervasive in its influence on telecommunications markets and products. Both users and firms need to understand many of the features and benefits of using ISDN. Worldwide, telephone companies are preparing marketing and tariff plans to make use of their rapidly growing integrated digital networks, the backbone of ISDN. This paper describes the reasons for the introduction of ISDN, the impact of ISDN on users (particularly education), the standards introduced by ISDN and the types of services and benefits provided by ISDN networks.
