Abstract: The economic and technical progress of developing countries relies heavily on the skills and knowledge of their engineers. Continuing education is needed to prevent these skills and knowledge becoming out-of-date or obsolescent. But should there be an element of compulsion, through say professional registration and recognition? The author considers the rights and obligations of engineers and their employers in respect of continuing engineering education in developing countries.
