Abstract: In the UK, The Engineering Council is establishing a national system for the lifelong continuing professional development (CPD) of engineers and technicians. The author describes the framework for a National System for CPD as essentially a partnership between individual engineers and their employers; professional institutions and providers of CPD programs also have key roles to play.
