Abstract: The Environment and School Initiatives, launched in 1986 by the Centre for Educational Research and Innovation of the OECD, is an attempt at developing an international curriculum on the environment. Nineteen countries took part, each country choosing a network of schools to carry out environmental education in an action-research mode that focused on giving students the opportunity to take active responsibility for their local environment, and to act on it to make changes.
