Abstract: The growth rate of Indian exports has picked up in the recent past. India still has a huge untapped potential for meeting world demand. Empirical research has found that Knowledge Management (KM) leads to improved performance and competitiveness. This research work studies the state of the art of KM among Indian exporters. The research work surveyed experts to have a macro perspective and exporters to have a micro perspective. Based on the experts| opinion and exporters| survey, we found that international export firms are more involved with KM as compared to Indian exporters but that KM is gaining currency among Indian exporters. Lack of information and poor knowledge sharing are the main problems faced by Indian exporters and they need to focus on KM for achieving sustainable competitiveness.

Keywords: India; exports; competitiveness; knowledge management.
